IIT Delhi and 18 NITs launch national network to boost research and student mobility
IIT Delhi established a national academic and research collaboration network through Memoranda of Understanding with 18 National Institutes of Technology across India. The initiative aims to promote academic excellence, joint research, innovation, talent development and student and faculty mobility. The collaboration also supports resource sharing and stronger academic linkages between participating institutions.

Why it matters
The initiative demonstrates the potential of inter-institutional collaboration to strengthen India's higher education and research ecosystem. By connecting IIT Delhi with multiple NITs, institutions can create opportunities to share expertise, research infrastructure and academic resources that may otherwise remain concentrated within individual campuses.
Student mobility is another important aspect of the initiative. Greater academic exchange can allow students to access specialised expertise, research opportunities and programmes beyond their home institutions. Similarly, faculty mobility and collaboration can facilitate knowledge sharing and support joint academic and research activities.
The network also reflects a broader shift towards collaborative models of higher education, where institutional strength is not limited to what an individual university can provide independently. Stronger academic networks can support multidisciplinary research, improve resource utilisation and create pathways for institutions with complementary strengths to work together.
If expanded effectively, such networks could contribute to a more connected higher education system in which research, expertise and academic opportunities are shared across institutions.
